About the Exhibit :: The Flag on Paper: Selections From the American Flag Collection of Kit Hinrichs was a comprehensive look at 150 years of the Stars and Stripes in everyday use. Exhibited artworks covered a broad range of printed ephemera beginning with the Civil War and extended to contemporary pieces. This exhibition included propaganda posters from both World Wars, children's games, fine and folk art, advertising stickers, political memorabilia, fruit can labels, prison art, protest pieces, and postcards commemorating the Stars and Stripes within our culture.
Designer and exhibition curator Kit Hinrichs studied at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. He served as principal in several design offices in New York and San Francisco before spending 23 years as a partner of Pentagram. In 2009, Hinrichs opened an independent design firm in San Francisco called Studio Hinrichs. He has more than 3,000 Stars and Stripes artifacts in his collection, which has been exhibited at the American Institute of Graphic Arts in New York and the San Jose Museum of Art. He lives in San Francisco.
